PICTIONARY

There is a new addiction along with a new lifestyle. Life has been pretty much relaxing albeit a few must-do with getting Called to the Bar. I have completed my pupillage and got Called to the Msian Bar on Friday. It was an auspicious day for me and I couldn't help but to feel a sense of achievement although I have been Called to the Bar, England and Wales before. Still, it's good to experience it twice! Ahh yes, I was introduced to PICTIONARY lately and I must say, it's helluva fun to play, especially in a big group. Remember that American program called Win, Lose or Draw ? Same concept, different format. How does one draw Illusion, Remember, Soul ... Udder .... Mad ... PHWOAR --> It's been fun guessing and even more fun guessing it right!

As for work wise, I've been sending out mass application and only heard from 2 law firms. 'Sigh' ... how dissapointing. Attended one for a position in Corporate law and the lady was way arrogant. All I could remember her saying was .. "It's a privilege to work in Shearn". This was repeated every 5 mins. Though, at the end ... she offered a position for me but it wasn't a good offer. So, I'm just gonna keep my options open and fingers cross that I hear many responses soon! Otherwise, I'll be jobless. It's a horrible feeling after a while.

PENANG BAR DINNER 2006

Decision to attend the dinner was made last minute. I am not a fan of big dinner as I do find them boring, at times. After much persuasion from friends, I finally cave in and thought that it might be fun. Though getting a dress on such a short notice was not easy but as luck would have it, I found myself an efficient and indeed a good tailor who was just ... magic!

Anyway, the dinner was held at Equitorial Hotel. The food was so so but the company and atmosphere were highly enjoyable. I think I did more socialising compared to eating. Above are some random pics taken.

DUMB

Tell me if I am being overly inflamed after I relate this. For the last 2 months of my pupillage namely June and July, I was offered by an ex-colleague to replace her parking spot at the compound of the school [opposite the office]. She was going on maternity leave and will be back in August which works out perfect really, because I am due to leave by August. I gladly and appreciatively accepted. The fees are RM50 per month, to be paid at end of the month. I duly paid all and remembered very well paying the last RM50 for the month of July at a very early period. Paid on a morning weekday and on my way out at the same evening .. I asked for my receipt. The man replied that the receipt has been passed to LYK [another colleague who parked at the same place].

I said ok, I'll just get it from him. But ... I forgotten all about it.

All is well or at least I thought it was when I received a telephone call from Annie relaying that the Indian fella asked her for that RM100.00 for that 2 months I parked. He claimed or more appropriately, accused me of not paying the parking fee. What a nerve! So I told Annie everything ... that I had paid and don't pay him again.

It's clear to me that he's out to make double profit. He ain't the brightest of lad is he. I mean .. assuming his accusations are right and this would inadvertently mean that he's saying he had allowed me to parked for 60 days without me paying and within this 60 days he didn't come to realise that I had not paid but only after I had left ? Furthermore, he had 60 days to ask or remind me of it. And to think that Lawyers would fall for that ..... sigh.

He must have thought that since I had left the office , there was no way Annie would find out about the truth from me.

Dumb or what ... I'm not all that a terrible person but I sure as hell don't appreciate being cheat, even if it's an unimpressive attempt!

AIYOO!

I never would have thought that filing my last papers for the Admission to the Bar would be such a painstaking procedure. I arrived here in KL on Sunday and was gonna file my papers on the following Monday, incidentally yesterday and head home on that very day.

Had the luck of running into Geetha and she told me that I cannot actually proceed with the filing unless my Confidential Report is prepared by the Penang Bar and send to the Bar Council. ' Cause you see, I need to hand that Report to Mr. Mureli upon filing my papers. It really is my fault .. I should have confirmed ahead before being all heroine and coming here to file my papers with a gleeful grin on my face.

Ahhh. Nevermind. So here I am staying a few extra days in KL till my Report arrived at the Bar Council.

I just hope I can manage to squeeze all that I need to do by today. Can't sit still untul I do so. Unrest.

This is such a donkey job ... all the payment procedure, affirmation and not to mention ... hundreds of copies to be made!

On the other hand, I'm having an enjoyable time just staying here and taking it easy. Shopping is good here, with what the Mega Sale everywhere. WL has been such a darling, offering me such hospitality and help, more ever so at such a short notice.

I'm kinda warming up to KL and I wouldn't mind staying for a few more days but I just want to file my papers and get it out of the way. So hopefully, everything will be smooth sailing today and hope I don't get lost driving to Putrajaya. Wish me luck!

Seen Dead Man's Chest and love it to bits! Higly recommended. Laughable, action packed and gotta love Jack Sparrow. Sorry, I meant Captain Jack Sparrow.

UPDATES!

June the 11th was my last entry. I s'pose that's not too bad. I have a few updates for all those interested. I'm about to complete my pupillage. The coming week would be my last week and I am thrilled beyond words! Really looking forward to a few weeks of not having to wake up early and just taking it plain easy each day. How I miss those carefree days. I will not be staying on with the firm I am at in the future. I don't think there's a future for me there. So, I am looking forward to move on plus meeting new people.

Secondly, I was down in the capital city for the Malay [BM] Language Oral Test on last Friday. Boy ... that was nervewrecking but I passed! Wooo Hoo ... I cannot even begin to describe how relieved I am that I manage to wing this one. So yes, I am all smiles - at least for now. The format of the test/exam are as follows:-

• Panel of examiner consist of 3 person. Namely, one from the Legal Qualifying Board, one from the chamber of Attorney-General and a High Court Judge, namely Your Honorable Abdul Wahid Patail.
• One is expected to maintain court forum whilst in the exam room. We are required to bow and greet the Judge as 'Yang Arif', Malay equivalent to 'Your Honour'. The first part of the exam consist of the ability to converse in BM whereby the Judge will ask a few simple questions relating to one's background and education history.
• The second part is where the drill starts to kick in. One is asked to read a passage, legally related of course and one will be asked to read the same passage twice. One passage consist about 15 - 20 lines. You are instructed where to start reading and where to finish, specifically. After reading, one is expected to do instant translation. The topic assigned to me was Arbitration.
• Translation are to be done twice. At the second round, one is expected to translate with the correct words where mistakes were made during the 1st translation.
